Advertising Terms
Effective from April 26, 2026. Updated periodically.
Last updated: April 26, 2026.
These Advertising Terms apply to anyone (an “Advertiser”) who books a paid placement on The Techbull (a “Campaign”). They sit on top of our general Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
Booking
- Campaigns are booked through your Advertiser dashboard. You must hold a verified Advertiser account; signups are free.
- Each booking is tied to (i) a specific slot, (ii) a specific date range, and (iii) a paid transaction. Without all three, the ad does not run.
- Slot inventory is finite. The dashboard shows live availability; the booking form prevents over-booking.
- Prices on the rate card are exclusive of taxes and gateway fees, which we display before you confirm payment.
Currencies and payment methods
- You may book in USD, EUR or KES. The currency you choose determines the payment gateway: PayPal handles USD and EUR; Pesapal handles KES, mobile money and African card transactions.
- FX rates between currencies are set by us and updated periodically; the rate at the moment of payment is snapshotted onto your invoice and never re-applied.
- Internally, we always store the price in USD cents and the FX rate used for your transaction. Refunds replay the same FX rate so amounts match exactly.
Creative
- You upload creative through your dashboard after payment confirmation.
- Accepted formats: PNG, JPG, WebP. Exact slot dimensions; total size ≤ 200 KB unless we agree otherwise.
- Animations: subtle only. No flashing or seizure-inducing patterns. No autoplay audio. No JavaScript or remote scripts.
- Creative must clearly identify the advertiser. We may, at our discretion, label paid placements as “Sponsored” or “Paid Partnership”.
- You warrant that you own or have licensed all rights in the creative, including any imagery and music. You’ll defend us against any third-party claim arising from your creative.
Prohibited categories
We do not run advertising for, or that promotes:
- Tobacco, vaping or related products.
- Adult content, sexual services, or “mail-order” relationships.
- Predatory lending, “guaranteed returns” investment schemes, pyramid/MLM models, unregulated forex/CFDs/binary options, or unlicensed crypto exchanges.
- Disinformation, election interference, climate-change denial, or anti-vaccine messaging.
- Hate speech, harassment, or content that targets people based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, religion, disability or nationality.
- Illegal goods or services in Kenya or your jurisdiction.
- Knock-off / counterfeit goods.
We reserve the right to refuse or pull any creative that violates these categories or that we judge inconsistent with our editorial values, with a full refund of unused inventory.
Editorial separation
Our journalists do not see who is buying ads on a given page, and your booking gives you no influence over editorial coverage. Coverage of advertisers (whether positive, negative or neutral) is decided independently. If you believe an editorial decision was influenced by ad spend, write to our editor-in-chief via our contact page and we’ll investigate.
Performance, pacing and make-goods
- The dashboard shows live impression and click counts, plus a “pacing” indicator: contracted impressions vs. actual delivery.
- Where the rate card lists projected impressions, the projection is based on rolling 30-day audience numbers and is not a guarantee of exact delivery.
- If actual delivery falls below 90% of projected impressions by the end of the contracted window, you can choose between (a) a pro-rata refund or (b) a free extension at our standard rate, whichever is higher in value.
- Click numbers are reported in good faith but exclude clearly invalid/bot traffic; we maintain conservative click filtering.
Cancellation
- Cancel before the start date for a 100% refund minus gateway fees (typically 2–4%).
- Cancel during the run for a pro-rata refund of unused inventory; the served portion remains chargeable.
- If we pull your creative under “Prohibited categories” before launch, you receive a 100% refund. If we pull it during the run for a violation that emerged later, the served portion remains chargeable; future inventory is refunded.
Tamper-proofing & integrity
Our advertising pipeline maintains a hash-chained audit log: every transaction, campaign and rate change is signed and linked to the prior entry. If any record in the chain is altered, missing, or unreachable, we suspend rendering of the affected campaign automatically and notify you and the operations team. This protects both sides — advertisers cannot be over-billed, and we cannot under-deliver without record. See the integrity panel inside your Advertiser dashboard.
Data & reporting
- Campaign metrics (impressions, clicks, CTR, geographic and device breakdowns) are visible in your dashboard for the full life of the campaign and 24 months thereafter.
- You receive a final report and downloadable CSV at end-of-campaign.
- We do not share advertiser data with other advertisers.
Intellectual property
You retain ownership of your creative and brand assets and grant us a non-exclusive licence to display them as part of your booked Campaign. We retain ownership of our platform, layouts and reporting tools.
Liability
Our liability for any single Campaign is capped at the amount you paid for that Campaign. The general liability and indemnity provisions of our Terms of Service apply.
Governing law
These Advertising Terms are governed by Kenyan law, with disputes resolved in the courts of Nairobi. Mandatory consumer-protection laws of your jurisdiction (if any apply) continue to apply.
